The Dental Record was created by the Wisconsin Dental Association (WDA) to provide dentists with a quality dental record keeping system. It all began with the WDA's three year research study of existing dental records that uncovered a disturbing fact. Most dental records are inadequate, outdated, and disorganized.
The practicing dentist on the WDA Quality Assurance Committee spent over a year defining the specific components, function, characteristics, format, and legalities that comprise a quality dental record. We determined that the primary purpose of a dental record is to document the management of a patient's dental disease and treatment. In addition, a thorough dental record is an absolute necessity in post-treatment reviews, peer review, and to protect the legal interest of the doctor as well as the patient. So, as a service to our members, we decided to develop and make available a thorough and easy-to-use record keeping system. After extensive clinical testing, The Dental Record system was introduced to WDA members. Response was overwhelming. The WDA then offered The Dental Record through national dental shows and national advertising. Thousands of dentists, from all 50 states, have incorporated The Dental Record into their own practices, reporting ease of use, lower malpractice risk, and increase office productivity. Paper forms and charts have now been expanded to include labels, cabinets, and digital record keeping products. As legal requirements change or as new medical situations arise, we continue to update forms to keep your records legally and medically current. You can concentrate on caring for your patients. - Dr. Paul J. Oberbreckling President, The Dental Record |
